Chincoteague Trip 2

The cowboys don't swim with the horses, so some of them come over on the barge from Assateague before the swim.

As we waited, the tide rose and many people in front of us were standing in water.

The Coast Guard signals that it's slack tide and time for the ponies to swim.

They're about halfway here!

While they're swimming, only their heads are up out of the water.

Here they come.

I switched to movie mode after this as they came up onto the beach.

At dinner we had the best scallops I ever tasted.

This girl kept trying to buy the pony, but every time the bidding got too high, her mom said no. Finally, on this round, she got the winning bid and we all cheered for her.

This was a "fall pickup" - the colt is too young to leave its mother, so they'll send it back and the purchaser will have to come back in the fall to pick it up.

The paint ponies with pretty markings bring the biggest prices.
