Steve reaching for a photo
This cauldron bubbles noisily, but you can't see into it. And can't quite get a view with a camera.
Camping is unrestricted on pubic lands
When you're traveling with an editor, no typo escapes notice.
Taxidermy
The Malheur National Wildlife Refuge headquarters features a museum of taxidermied fauna (including eggs!). They were really nicely done and beautifully presented.
Golden Eagle
Steve spotted a pair of these on the cliffs. One took off before I could get the camera set up on the scope. This is my first attempt at digiscoping with the new Fuji camera; need to work on focus, but the results are much better than my previous camera.
Yellow and white
We started running into snow on this loop. I thought the yellow, gray, and white pallete here was really pretty and unusual. Birches or Aspen? Dunno.
Hey it's snow!
Eventually we turned back; the snow was too deep and we weren't sure how great the risk was or how much further we had to go. But on the way back down, we stopped at a little turnout to play in the snow.
Home on the Range
The color of this cow was so pretty against the blue sky, and I really liked her face. But I wasn't able to get the photo just the way I wanted it, so it comes out just looking like a cow alongside of the road.
Home yet?
This is near Petaluma, and she knows we're getting close to home but that we've passed the Petaluma dog park.
